Honorable mention in the Eastern Idaho State Fair in the landscape category.  This was also a photo I gave to my dad for fathers day.

2nd Place in the Eastern Idaho State Fair in the landscape category.  This too was a gift for my dad.

Idaho Falls in the morning

I had the opportunity to get out and photograph my local towns main attractions.  I went out on Sunday evening and the sky wasn't very exciting. So what did I do?  Why... go the next morning of course!  It required getting up before the birds however.  This is the final image.  It's made up of 4 exposures of different brightness and then blended together using an HDR technique.  I love the colors and texture that HDR provides.

UPDATE!  I decided to enter this photo into the Eastern Idaho State fair for 2012.  To my surprise this one took 1st place in the waterscapes category.  Even the blind squirrel find the acorn every once in a while!

I've started playing around with a new photo process and have found it to be fun and rewarding.  I've been going through some of my old photos from the last couple years and have been reprocessing them.  Here are a couple of my latest.

UPDATE!  I entered this photo in the Eastern Idaho State Fair for 2012 and this one took 3rd place in multiple exposures.
This is the nativity that the LDS Temple visitors center places in front of the Idaho Falls Temple

I don't often take pictures in bright sun light but I did this time. I like the look of it in this case.

For mothers day I took the kids out and snapped a couple pics to go along with a crafty little picture display.  I wanted to try a more urban feel for the photos and I found a neat wall downtown Idaho Falls.

Sometimes It's nice to see a sweeping landscape.  This picture doesn't follow the rules of what makes a good composition but I enjoyed the colors that came from the sun cresting over the eastern mountains and creating the golden grass and the sky to look so deep.
Took the boys to the father and sons campout and snapped a couple  while exploring with Spencer and Garrett.  I love how aspens grow!

2012 Solar Eclipse

On May 21, 2012 I had the rare opportunity to witness a solar eclipse right out my front door.  I tried to talk myself into heading down to St. George, Ut where the coverage was going to be 96% coverage, where we only had 84%.  I didn't plan well enough to get there and I didn't have the greatest setup to make the trip worthwhile.  Never the less, it was fun to see what I captured after it was all done.  It was difficult to get the camera to focus without the ability to look through the view finder.

Because I didn't have the perfect set up for solar photography I got some color that was unexpected.

Looks nearly like the crescent moon.  I was surprised by the sun spot caught near the bottom of the moon as it passed in front of the sun.
